Box Art Face Off #2

Today we are looking at one of my favorite games a game that most associate with the Gameboy, Tetris. 

The Japanese box is also one of the smaller sized boxes. You see in Japan there wasn't one standard size box like there was in the US. Actually its something that I don't care for but perhaps that's some OCD talking. To be clear there are three different sized boxes so good luck organizing those, its probably the reason I went for a loose collection. That and it would be harder and more expensive going for boxed versions.

Anyway on to the reason we came here the art. To keep the same format the Japanese game is on the left and the the US is on the right.

 

The Japanese one has a simple and over all clean look but for me there really isn't that much going on. The US versions image is much more pleasing to me, the colors and the way the blocks are falling from the sky it reminds me of Tron for some random reason. On the down side there is a lot of noise on the box, there's the tag line under the title, the triangle at the bottom with the "From Russia with Fun!". Not to mention the two player logo and the Nintendo seal of quality, sure there are things on the Japanese version as well but they don't overlap the image. 

My take: In the end though I still have to give the win to the US version, the Japanese one is just not very memorable to me. The US one on the other hand is iconic to me and honestly the image is just so good. I mean I wouldn't mind a poster with that image and just the Tetris logo at the top, nothing else.

Girlfriend's take:
Oooh..This is tough because I actually like both of them. The Japanese version use of the colours makes it look like it's an adult game compared the colourful US version one. But I do like how the blocks are falling down with a speed line effect which adds movement to the image. They should just combine the two by doing that but with less colour on the blocks and it'll be perfect! So..version 3? No? 

*Girlfriend edit: Since The Boyfriend won't let me abstain, I am forced to make my choice. I pick the Japanese version.
