Box Art Face Off #4

Okay so today I'm looking at a fun game and if you read the title you all ready know that its Dr. Mario.

On the left is the Japanese art and on the right is the US art.

 

The interesting thing here is that in both cases the box art is identical to the home console counter part, the Famicom in Japan and the NES in the States. The Japanese one is kind of dull to me for some reason, I mean there are lots of colors but just something about it is muted. Honestly, I think the thing that puts me off the most is with Mario's pose it looks like this will be an educational game. On the other hand you have the US design which is very colorful and also includes very large images of the characters. I also like Mario's slightly crazy looking face and rather than the pointer he is holding a thermometer. Lastly the logo on the US one is much more clever with the R in Dr. becoming the Rx which means prescription in Latin and is commonly used in the States when getting medicine. 

For me this is an easy win for the US version, the color, Mario's expression, the logo. For me, its just more fun to look at.
